Delhi Police are going to hire over 500 CCTV cameras for strict vigilance especially around the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the National flag and deliver the Independence Day speech on August 15.
Last year, during Republic Day, Delhi Police had hired 605 CCTV cameras during the visit of US President Barack Obama and for the Republic day parade. These cameras were removed soon after the event prompting the court to slam the government for “not being bothered” about security of women and children.
MONEY IS NO OBJECT
A whopping amount of over Rs 1.36 crore was spent on the hiring, installation and removal of these CCTV cameras. Delhi Police has already faced a lot of criticism for not covering the entire city under third eye surveillance at a time when the crime graph in the city is on the rise. Delhi Police along with the government has mapped dark and vulnerable areas and are in the process of installing more cameras.
Police officials claim that these cameras were installed at various key locations across the city, but they would not be permanently installed as it will not able to handle ‘the erratic and extreme’ weather conditions of the Capital.
